Our mission is built into our name. “Plus Alpha” is a Japanese idiom that means “added benefit”. We bring “added benefit” to your research and consulting needs with our technical expertise in research and statistics coupled with adaptive experience in data use to improve outcomes.
We are an 8(a)-certified woman and minority-owned small business. We apply a continuous improvement approach to our work and see our clients as partners to improve outcomes. We work with clients nation-wide, from federal, state and local agencies; foundations; non-profit organizations and research firms; and universities.
Understanding holistic and interrelated contexts
Plus Alpha trains and supports clients to actively design and inculcate equity. We start by understanding the local contexts and building trusting relationships through empathy interviews. Then we create client-specific training to advance equity.
An example of our values in action is our work in building connections with educators. We developed a framework for implementing equity called the Equity Cycle. The Equity Cycle uses computational thinking to debug inequity in systems and iterate through improvement.
Creating frameworks and developing new knowledge
Plus Alpha designs, conducts, and creates new knowledge to improve equitable outcomes, drawing on the lived experience of our team members, coupled with training and certifications in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Evaluation Design (WWC).
An example of our values in action is our work in bringing curiosity to research and development (R&D) projects. We created the Catalyst for Actively Designing and Researching Equity (CADRE) project. CADRE collaborates with a cohort of educators to research how to implement equity in schools.
Partnering with racially and ethnically diverse clients
Plus Alpha is a member of the Advancing Culturally-responsive and Equitable (ACE) Evaluation Network. We collaborate with other racially and ethnically diverse evaluators to support the Culturally Responsive and Equitable Evaluation (CREE) framework.
An example of our values in action is our work in prioritizing collaboration and bringing an equity mindset to all of our interactions and projects. We have advised multiple organizations and clients in inculcating an equity mindset in their research and evaluation design, project design, and implementation.
