Ryoko founded Plus Alpha to bridge the gap between research, practice, and policy so that organizations can enact equity to improve outcomes.
Ryoko has over 30 years of experience as a practitioner and researcher of adolescent development. Her methodological expertise centers around research and survey design and statistical analysis, particularly hierarchical linear modeling.
As a special education teacher, Ryoko held two teaching certifications in Special Education (Learning Disabilities and Emotional / Behavioral Disorder) with training in trauma-informed care, inclusion, and accessibility from Loyola University Chicago. She taught youth in psychiatric, residential, and public settings in the United States, as well as internationally in England and Japan.
As a social scientist, Ryoko has a Ph.D. from University of Michigan Ann Arbor, with continued training and certifications in evaluation design as a What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) certified reviewer and IES-funded Research Training Institute for Quasi-Experimental Design and Analysis, and in equity with certifications in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Equitable Community Change from Cornell University. She is an advisory board member of the Advancing Culturally-Responsive and Equitable (ACE) Evaluation Network.
