Ryoko founded Plus Alpha to bridge the gap between research, practice, and policy so that organizations can improve outcomes.
Ryoko has over 30 years of experience as a practitioner and researcher of adolescent development. Her methodological expertise centers around research methods, survey design, and statistical analysis, particularly hierarchical linear modeling.
As a special education teacher, Ryoko held two teaching certifications in Special Education (Learning Disabilities and Emotional / Behavioral Disorder) with specialized training in trauma-informed care from Loyola University Chicago. She taught youth in psychiatric, residential, and public settings in the United States, as well as internationally in England and Japan.
As a social scientist, Ryoko has a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, with advanced training and certifications in research design and analysis. She participated in the IES-funded Research Training Institute for Quasi-Experimental Design and Analysis, and is a What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) certified reviewer. She is an advisory board member of the Expanding The Bench ACE Evaluation Network.

Toshi has over 20 years of experience as a psychometrician and data scientist. He focuses on data mining, complex statistical analysis of “big data," and predictive modeling. Toshi is an advanced programmer in Python, SAS, BayesiaLab, PySpark, Scala, R, SQL, SPSS, WinBugs, VBA, PMML, MPlus and Mode.

Cyntrica has over 20 years of experience as a computer scientist, researcher, curriculum developer, and trainer. She is a Hampton Roads native with a strong commitment for broadening participation in STEM, helping organizations create effective policies, and coordinating programs and policies.
Principal Scientist
Manyee has over 15 years of experience as a quantitative sociologist. She focuses on quantitative research with emphasis on improving the design and use of quasi-experimental methods. Her methodological expertise is in the use of interrupted time series and advocates the use of additional design elements.
Principal Associate
Michael has over 20 years of experience as an educator, program developer, and professional development trainer. He has served in numerous educational leadership roles. With experience working with various teams (from schools to military personnel), his forte is in training and coaching teams to improve outcomes.

James has over 30 years of experience as a computer scientist and data engineering. James brings significant expertise in data visualization specializing in Tableau Business Intelligence and Data Visualization Software. His data dashboards and data visualizations have won awards with federal clients.
Research Associate
Daniela has 7 years of experience as an education researcher and data analyst with extensive experience using quantitative and qualitative methods of analysis. She has worked for non-profit research institutions and public colleges since graduating with a B.S. in Economics from Duke University in 2018.
Project Manager
Michelle has 10 years of experience as a project manager, executive assistant, and communications manager. She has led communications and fundraising efforts and coordinated with executive leadership to support their efforts to advance the organization.
Research Assistant
Kimi has 4 years of experience as a research assistant in education, healthcare, and health policy projects. She has worked on research projects conducting literature reviews, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and field-based data collection.
Finance Manager
Deb has over 20 years of experience in accounting and finance. She has earned many certifications in QuickBooks, including the elite Advanced Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor designation. Deb is also an Enrolled Agent, an IRS-licensed tax professional.
